2 more AXA IM funds receive Towards Sustainability label

Recognition of AXA IM’s ESG commitment

As a responsible investor, we are particularly proud to announce that 2 more AXA IM funds have just been awarded the Belgian Sustainability label, which is among the strictest labels in Europe. The funds which have been awarded the label are the following:

AXA WF Global Factors - Sustainable Equity

AXA WF Framlington Global Small Cap

The funds below had been awarded the Towards Sustainability Label previously:

AXA Trésor Court Terme, AXA WF Framlington Clean Economy, AXA WF Framlington Eurozone RI, AXA WF Framlington Human Capital, AXA WF Framlington Women Empowerment, AXA WF Global Green Bonds

Enhancing our capacities within the Responsible Investment field is one of the priorities laid out in AXA IM’s strategy, both by broadening ESG integration across AXA IM, but also by reinforcing the RI and ESG product offering.

As of December 31, 2019, over €500 bn of our assets are ESG integrated*.

Febelfin helps consumers make conscious choices for sustainable investments

Consumers today are making increasingly responsible choices. This applies to what they eat, how they travel, but also to their money. They therefore prefer not to invest in activities that are harmful to humans, the environment or society. That is why Febelfin has developed, in consultation with banks, fund managers and civil society, a quality standard for sustainable financial products, such as investment funds. If these products meet the standard, they can obtain a sustainability label. With this standard, Febelfin aims for greater transparency for its clients and wants to encourage the financial sector to take more responsibility in the climate challenges (source: Febelfin).

“The development of our RI offer is one of AXA IM’s strategic priorities. Obtaining the Towards Sustainability label for 8 of our funds in Belgium is a recognition of our efforts in this respect and an incentive to continue our initiatives in this context.” (Matt Christensen, Head of Responsible Investment, AXA Investment Managers).

What’s next?

As responsible investors, we are proud to have received the Towards Sustainability label from Febelfin. However, there is no room for complacency. We will continue to manage ESG risks and opportunities when investing on behalf of our clients and submit other funds for obtaining the Towards Sustainability label in the future.

ESG Integrated: our top-down focus on responsible investment has driven us to develop a proprietary ESG scoring system. We closely monitor any low-scoring investment holdings that might signal worrying tail risks. Our goal is to address the ESG themes that are most significant for investors so that we can protect client returns into the future. Our screening policy applies across the vast majority of assets. This excludes manufacturers of controversial weapons and companies who derive more than 30% of revenues from coal production. We also exclude assets linked to food commodities or palm oil production. ESG Integrated Funds apply additional screening to exclude tobacco producers and companies in violation of the UN Global Compact. We seek to minimise exposure to companies with low ESG scores, however there is no systematic objective to reduce the investment universe further at this level. ESG research and key performance indicators (KPIs) form part of the investment decision-making process in portfolios. On average, about 4-5% of a benchmark index would be excluded from investments at this level. All ESG integrated funds are subject to our stewardship approach.
